Welcome to The Highland Guide:
If you’ve ever found yourself navigating the vast, sometimes overwhelming, world of Highland cattle, agriculture, or farming, you’re in the right place. Welcome to The Highland Guide—a space where we explore everything from the iconic heritage of Scottish Highlands to the nuances of modern farming, all with the goal of empowering you to make informed decisions that work for you.
As someone deeply rooted in both the breeding of Highland and the raising of premium Highland beef, I know firsthand how complex this journey can be. In the more than 20 years of raising cattle, I’ve faced challenges, celebrated victories, and made plenty of mistakes along the way. This blog is a reflection of those experiences—both mine and the collective wisdom of this incredible community.
But more importantly, it’s about you. Whether you’re just starting with Highland, a seasoned rancher, or somewhere in between, this guide is here to champion your journey.
There Is No Wrong Way, Just Your Way
The Highland world can often feel polarized. Are registered Highland better than unregistered? Are mini Highland real? Here’s what I believe: there’s no wrong way to do Highland or agriculture—there’s only your way.
Every operation is unique, just like the people who run them. What works for one may not suit another, and that’s okay. My goal with The Highland Guide is to provide you with tools, knowledge, and diverse perspectives so you can confidently chart your own course.
What to Expect
This blog will feature:

- Balanced Discussions: Exploring polarizing topics with fairness and presenting both sides so YOU can decide what works for you.
- Real-Life Lessons: Sharing personal experiences, challenges, and successes from both the breeding and beef sides of my Highland business.
Join Me for The Journey
Agriculture is more than just raising animals—it’s about connection, resilience, and honoring the land and its traditions. My hope is that The Highland Guide becomes more than a resource—it becomes a community where we celebrate the diversity of approaches, share knowledge, and inspire one another to thrive.
